How would a Fashionista wear leggings? Did you know there is a difference between leggings and jeggings? I hope so because there are ways you should never wear leggings. Keep reading to learn how to wear leggings.
It’s important that we first distinguish the difference between the two.
Leggings are usually made of Lycra, spandex, and knit and hug the body. They come in solid colors and prints, short (capris) and long to the ankle. Leggings are not as thick as jeggings and they are sometimes stretched until you can see through them (not a good look). If that’s the case wear them with something that covers the butt.
Jeggings almost look like skin tight pants. They are quite a bit thicker then leggings and are not at all see-through. Most of them have pockets and may zip or button. Leggings are not made to wear with a short shirt or jacket but jeggings are. I love to wear Jeggings with short jackets and boots.
So where do workout pants come into this? Athleta and LuLu Lemon have leggings (workout pants). Some are thicker than others and are OK for working out with the butt showing (on some people). However if you are going shopping after your workout I would suggest wearing a long sweater or shirt and a pair of boots or a cute pair of flats. Take a look at these body-hugging tights from Athleta. The ones they show for street style all have the backside covered. Even though they do have pockets and seem to be a little thicker.
One last thing. I do think that after a certain age it is even more important to follow these rules. If you are over 50, wearing leggings with nothing covering the back side, it is not usually an attractive look. On the blog 40 plus style, Sylvia shows some classy ways to wear leggings over 40.
Deborah at Fabulous After 40 also has some good advice when it comes to wearing leggings and skinny jeans.
